Background InformationThe weather station went 'live' and started collecting data from Saturday 13th February 2005 whilst situated in Littlehampton, using an Oregon Scientific Weather Station, and was upgraded to the Davis weather station on Saturday 15th August 2009. On 26th February 2012 the weather station was moved to its current location in Angmering. Various statistics can be found on the Statistics page. The weather station has 2 parts; Integrated Sensor Suite (ISS), Anemometer and a Base Station. Together these perform a variety of functions as detailed below.
|
|
Wind Speed & Direction
The weather station features a combined Wind Speed (Anemometer) and Direction (Weather Vane) sensor that transmits information back to the base station at 2.5 second intervals. The wind speed is measured by the sensors in Miles per Hour. The Virtual Weather Station software captures the data, and analyses it to formulate other relevant statistics e.g. Average Guest Speed and Wind Chill (Feels Like) factors. The instrument is located on top of the garage to ensure the best practical accuracy of the readings, as shown in the picture opposite. |

Outside Temperature & Humidity
The IIS is located about 2 metres above ground level, as shown in the picture to the left.

Rainfall
The tipping of the bucket, causes a trigger to occur. The trigger is relayed to the base station for onwards data transmission to the Virtual Weather Station software. The IIS is located about 2 metres above ground level, as shown in the picture to the right.

This device also monitors the indoor temperature (in oc), as shown in the picture to the left. |
